(21-8-17)

the smell of sweet august heat. unbearable
against your skin so you clamber out of it.
come crawl inside me & eat my bones. come
blather & bubble my intestines, cramp up my
skull, make my body your home. it never belonged
to me anyway, so i’ve made space for you
& my own ghost in between my joints. never mind
the swelling, the throb of blood, the thick scent
of it under my tongue as you whisper you are not
made of anything that matters. even when you’re
in my flesh you can hold my face between your palms
& press in, reminding me this will never be yours.
this will never be yours. this will never be yours.
